![]() On release, a writer for The Boston Globe described the music of Black Sabbath as "hard blues-rock". He maybe suggested a couple of things, but the songs were already fairly structured and sorted." He was good to have around, but we didn't really get a lot of advice from him. I mean, (producer) Rodger Bain, I think he's a genius the way he captured the band in such a short time." In his autobiography Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven & Hell with Black Sabbath, Iommi plays down the producer's role, insisting, "We didn't choose to work with Rodger Bain, he was chosen for us. ![]() I love it all, including the mistakes!" In an interview for the Classic Albums series in 2010 Butler added, "It was literally live in the studio. ![]() It's naïve, and there's an absolute sense of unity – it's not contrived in any way, shape or form. That's how albums should be made, in my opinion." Drummer Bill Ward agrees, telling Guitar World in 2001, "I think the first album is just absolutely incredible. It can't have taken any longer than twelve hours in total. We were in the pub in time for last orders. īlack Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne has always spoken fondly of the recording of the band's debut album, stating in his autobiography I Am Ozzy, "Once we'd finished, we spent a couple of hours double-tracking some of the guitar and vocals, and that was that. Soon after recording the album, he met a right-handed guitarist who was playing a left-handed SG upside down, and the two agreed to swap guitars this is the SG that Iommi modified and later "put out to pasture" at the Hard Rock Cafe. The SG was a right-handed model which the left-handed Iommi played upside down. Iommi began recording the album with a white Fender Stratocaster, his guitar of choice at the time, but a malfunctioning pickup forced him to finish recording with a Gibson SG, a guitar he had recently purchased as a backup but had "never really played". "That helped me develop my style of playing, bending the strings and hitting the open string at the same time just to make the sound wilder." In the same article bassist Geezer Butler added, "Back then the bass player was supposed to do all these melodic runs, but I didn't know how to do that because I'd been a guitarist, so all I did was follow Tony's riff. "I'd play a load of chords and I'd have to play fifths because I couldn't play fourths because of my fingers," Iommi explained to Phil Alexander in Mojo in 2013. Iommi created a pair of false fingertips using plastic from a dish detergent bottle and tuned the strings on his guitar down to make it easier for him to bend the strings, creating a massive, heavy sound. The key to the band's new sound on the album was Iommi's distinctive playing style that he developed after an accident at a sheet metal factory where he was working at the age of 17 in which the tips of the middle fingers of his fretting hand were severed. We never had a second run of most of the stuff." Ozzy was singing at the same time, we just put him in a separate booth and off we went. ![]() Iommi recalls recording live: "We thought, 'We have two days to do it and one of the days is mixing.' So we played live. We actually thought a whole day was quite a long time, then off we went the next day to play for £20 in Switzerland." Aside from the bells, thunder and rain sound effects added to the beginning of the opening track and the double-tracked guitar solos on " N.I.B." and "Sleeping Village", there were virtually no overdubs added to the album. Iommi said: "We just went in the studio and did it in a day, we played our live set and that was it. Black Sabbath is included in Robert Dimery's 2005 musical reference book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.Īccording to Black Sabbath's guitarist and founding member Tony Iommi, the group's debut album was recorded in a single twelve-hour session on 16 October 1969. It has retrospectively garnered reappraisal as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal albums of all time. īlack Sabbath received generally negative reviews from critics upon its release but was a commercial success, reaching number eight on the UK Albums Charts and number 23 on the US Billboard Top LPs chart. The album is widely regarded as the first true heavy metal album, and the opening track, " Black Sabbath", has been referred to as the first doom metal song. For example, before buying a new car or a new house, it is very common to try to estimate what the average price is and stick to that to negotiate. The anchoring bias is the tendency to be influenced by the very first piece of information we hear, called anchor, that we adjust to before making a decision. Here is a link to a site that has a page showing Belgian proofs and what they mean and when the marks were in use. There may be other proof marks under the forearm, but you'd need to remove the forearm and dismount the barrels to see them. 2 mm so if I'm reading them correctly, it is kind of hard to make out what numbers they are, your bore is slightly smaller than the modern nominal 12 gauge which be 18.5mm. I also see what looks like the numerals 18.0 this would be the bore diameter in millimeters rounded to the nearest. The 'candle stick' looking thing under the ELG proof mark is called the Perron, it's a stylized representation of a famous land mark in Liege. I don't have any listing of dates older than 1910 for who used this mark and when it was in use. Pre 1877 this mark had a crown over a capitol letter instead of a star, so your gun post dates 1877. The star over the capitol M is the mark of the controller of proof. Be sure to remove the rust with a little steel wool, neutralize it with Baking Soda and re-oil it.Click to expand. The ELG with a star inside of a circle is the mark of final proof of the Liege proofing house, post 1893 a crown was added to the top of the oval to denote compliance with German proof laws, so your gun pre dates 1893. When it starts to rust a Damascus barrel will show some pattern. Vinegar may work slowly, you may need a couple of application. If you are curious you can clean and oil from the inside of a barrel and apply some acid to it. No pattern may mean it is steel although the original pattern could be covered by rebluing or be worn off. If the pattern breaks across the rib it is likely to be true Damascus steel. If there is any remaining pattern and it continues in an unbroken fashion across the center rib it is probably a faux finish. You may be able to tell if your gun is Damascus or faux Damascus by looking under the forearm. Damascus was more costly, it was hand made. It has steel barrels w/ a faux Damascus Finish, normally an extra cost option over blued steel at the time. It is engraved so it may be worth more than yours ($400.00 ?) if yours is not engraved. You'd have to compare it to your gun to see if it is similar. ![]() It was made by Pieper (pronounced 'peeper' I believe). Eventually, one of the prince's servants opens the coffin and strikes Snow White in frustration, saying, "We are plagued the whole day long, just because of such a dead girl." The blow dislodges the poison apple, reviving her, and she agrees to marry the prince. The prince has his servants carry her coffin around the palace, so he is never far from her. He is so fixated on Snow White's beauty that he can't even eat unless he is in her presence. In the 1812 Grimm version, the prince's obsession with Snow White is even more creepy. This version was far darker and more mature than previous big screen adaptations, and a sign of the return to macabre fairy tale retellings we would see in the coming years (per The Atlantic). ![]() Disney would never explore such depraved themes, but this macabre element of the story was explored in " Snow White and the Huntsman," when the magic mirror tells Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) that eating the heart of Snow White (Kristen Stewart) will restore the queen's waning magical powers, thus returning her eternal youth and beauty. "The cook had to boil them with salt," one Grimm version reads, "and the wicked woman ate them, supposing that she had eaten Snow-White's lungs and liver."Ĭannibalism certainly is dark and twisted. The gruesome detail Disney left out of the story is the wicked queen cooks and eats the organs the huntsman brings to her. In some Brothers Grimm versions of the fairy tale, it is Snow White's liver and lungs that the queen requests, while in other early versions it is her heart she asks the huntsman to bring back. ![]() Costumes should not contain any weapons which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon. ![]()
Even after Hera/Juno had violated the agreement by revealing Jason Grace to the Greeks and Percy Jackson to the Romans, Chiron wanted to keep this promise. In a fight about the setting of borders, Remus was killed by Romulus in anger.Ĭhiron, Lupa, and most likely others who also knew of this swore upon the River Styx never to speak of it. This would later be called Rome, named after Romulus. They decided to find a new place, safe from the horrid king. It is also to be remembered that they were the sons of Mars. Anyway, the two were trained by Lupa and became very great warriors. This is very similar to the story of Moses. Rhea put the two boys in a river, the Tiber River, and they floated down to the lair of Lupa the wolf. The two were the sons of Rhea Silva, and they were wanted to be dead under the decree of the king. Because of the tremendous death toll, the gods decided to completely separate their children to avoid further bloodshed by weaving the Mist so thickly that the two rival groups forgot each other and would ensure that it would remain so ever since.Īnother story of the founding of Rome is the story of Romulus and Remus. The last of these wars mirrored the mortal's civil war of the 1860s. A rivalry developed between Greek and Roman which subsequently lead to many conflicts over the millennia.
